A life I love. . .

As you know, I have been having a little love affair with the black. Above is necklace that I created this morning- inspired by the new love in my life :).

It features a black enameled vintage flower as well as black glass beads that were each hand-wrapped and layered with oxidized sterling chain. I will probably list it on Etsy in the next few days- I am working on a matching ring as well.

This is me. My sweet Ayrington created this lovely portrait of her Mommy. I am even sporting a cape! lol! Notice my entourage?? . . .  a dragonfly, butterfly, horse, cat and dog! I only roll with the best! :)
This particular portrait is definitely going to be displayed on the London Wall I plan to create.

I haven't forgotten about the photo I promised of the wreath I created last week- I will be sure to post it soon.

Peace.

Creative Goodness

I attempted to post yesterday but, after I completed my ENTIRE post and selected "preview" I lost everything! So, I thought I would try again this morning.

Life has been a bit hectic lately. (as I am sure many of you can relate) The kids are busy with school and their extracurricular activities- we have finally become a bit used to our daily routine.

Now, I have a more time to focus on my jewels and a bit of creative goodness. The creative bug has bit me. I have found myself creating in my sleep and perusing the internet for inspiration!

I spent Thursday afternoon creating Halloween decorations. I made a pretty cool black wreath for the front door (I will post photos of the wreath next week) as well as an arrangement for the kitchen counter. (see photo above) I created the arrangement by clipping branches from my yard (from the tree I lost thanks to Ike) that I then painted black and studded with black silk flowers - oh, the branches are also adorned with stunning black ornaments and little black berries. They actually are kind of sexy.

I think I am going through a black phase. Kris thinks it's more of a Goth phase- I want everything black. :) I even painted all of my doors in my house black over the summer.  And I love it. Maybe its the witch in me. I don't know.

See you next week.
Peace.

I did it again-

Alright. I know! I am such a LIBRA. I once again changed the background for my photos of my jewels! For the third time! Can I create more work for myself or what?? The reason I decided to change the background is because I am creating a look book for my wholesale accounts. So, I needed a clearer, neater background. (You can see below.)

Anyway, I took the kids to the zoo this afternoon and I will post pics tomorrow. We had a blast- even with the 100 degree heat! I will post pics this week!

Have a great night!

Baby it's HOT in here!

cantelopesherbert

I wake up Thursday morning to my thermostat reading a whopping 85 degrees. INSIDE! Oh, sh*t! I figured it would be about time for the A/C unit to go wonky on me considering it is a 20 year old unit. So, what's a girl to do while her mother's sweet friend Jerry is over repairing the A/C unit in the blazing heat? Why she makes homemade Melon Sherbert!  I found the below recipe the other day while perusing the net for vegetarian recipes. ((that's another story))

Enjoy!

Tip Top Melon Sherbet Recipe

1 pound of juicy, extra-ripe, orange-fleshed melon
1/4 cup mild flavored honey (needs to be fluid, and you might use a bit less depending on the sweetness of the melon)
1/2 cup organic whole milk
generous pinch of salt

Cut the melon flesh from its rind into a medium bowl and puree with a hand blender. You will need 2 cups of puree.

Add the milk, and salt. Now you want to sweeten to taste. If your honey is in a solid or crystallized state you need to dunk the jar in a bowl of warm water until it is liquid again. This way it will mix easily with the rest of the ingredients. Start by blending in 2T. of the honey and taste. If you think the mixture needs to be sweeter, add more honey. Keep in mind you want the honey to bring out and complement the flavor of the melon, not overpower it.

Pour into an ice-cream maker, and freeze according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Serves 4 to 6.

More Jewels

I have tons of new jewels in my Etsy shop and will be stocking throughout the coming weeks. I had initially thought that I should use a more colorful background in my photos but, it just didn't feel right- it wasn't me. So, I decided to used some of my favorite artwork by various artist because of the vintage feel they have.

I also am working on a couple of new recipes as part of "Cook it! Blog it!". So, hopefully I will post at least one this week. :)

Have a fabulous Monday!!

P.S. School starts her in Memphis in just 2 short weeks! I cannot believe it is that time already!
